Dancer - Choreographer - Storyteller
Andrea Nightingale is the Artistic Director and Choreographer with Storyographers’ Storytelling and Dance Collaborative; the Former Co-Artistic Director and Choreographer with Grand Rapids Dance Ensemble; and the Lead Arts and Humanities Specialist at the David D. Hunting YMCA, Grand Rapids, MI. With 15 plus years of ballet and creative movement dance instruction Andrea continues to teach at local dance studios and at the Cook Arts Center through the Grandville Avenue Arts and Humanities Counsel.
Currently, Andrea is studying to be a 4th generation, Isadora Duncan Dancer at The Joffrey Ballet in Chicago, IL under the direction of Jennifer Sprowl, a 3rd generation Isadora Duncan Dancer and Dance Teacher. She is also completing her certification in the Progressing Ballet Technique.
Andrea’s performing arts background includes being a featured dancer with D’Shire Dance Collective, Duncan Dance Chicago, GR Dance Ensemble, and Dance in the Annex.
Throughout the years Andrea has performed with The Grand Rapids Symphony; Moscow Ballet’s The Great Russian Nutcracker; the West Michigan Youth Ballet, C.A.R.E Ballet; An Arctic Journey’s Modern Dance Collaborative; Fusion’s Dance’s performance in A Night of Music; at the Grand Rapids Art Museum; and a 2017 Art Prize Artist. Andrea has also been featured in several dance on film pieces.
Her passion for dance began with ballet when performing the role of Clara in a youth production of The Nutcracker. By the age of 8, Andrea began as assistant ballet teacher under the direction of Kathy Birch. Andrea then launched her teaching career at the age of 12 through the Visser Family YMCA. Later receiving the YMCA’s Mind Body Spirit Award for her contributions to the dance programs, Teen nights and the establishment of the Muffin Dancers. Under the direction of teacher/choreographer, Andrea Nightingale, the Muffin Dancers performed at The Tulip Time Festival; Festival of The Arts; Fredrick Meijer Gardens; The Great Northern Music Hall; and GRTV cable access station; in addition to local libraries, music festivals and private events.
Reminiscent of times under the Big Top, Andrea and her son Aindreas can be found climbing-up, hanging-from and twirling-around aerial silks; circus style.
